The We Are For Egypt album release show was an amazing project to watch come to life. It’s part of a larger project exploring the history of Southern Illinois and its connection to “Little Egypt” consisting of a digital exhibit, musical album, and educational handbook. Jenny Pape of @missjennyandthehowdyboys produced the album pulling together artists from the region who recorded traditional songs as well as newly commissioned songs.

While folks joined together over dinner, drinks, and dance at @rt51brew local musicians sang songs of the times and the area, continuing the long tradition of sharing stories about and with community. I was honored to photograph the cover of the album (the Murphysboro Egyptian brick - thanks Dave and Mike!) and work with @nathantgraham again who designed the album cover and book. And I’m so glad to have attended this show to see history in the making.

12 artists were enlisted to make original pieces for each of the 12 songs on the upcoming album, and it was a fun project to get to know a song and make an image for it! Thanks to the Big Hurts for asking me to be a part and to @whiteford_n_bosco for always being a wonderful model.
